Katie Wilson and the Two Time String Band are a modern bluegrass band based out of southern Connecticut. Winners of the 2010 Podunk Bluegrass Festival Band Competition, they perform regularly in the Northeast in an all-acoustic format. Their show features original compositions and choice covers in a strong, vocal-driven format.
Katie’s unique melodic vocal style has enabled her to be in full command of a wide range of emotions and styles (“[Wilson] has a lovely voice and performs with grace and beauty in a variety of musical genres”--Martin Blanco, executive producer of the “Flagpole Radio Café”; “warm, sweet, and melodic”--Amanda Cuda, Connecticut Post), and her performances are flavored by her love of American roots music.
Raised in New England, Katie left home at an early age to travel across the U.S. and Canada, and she lived in Alabama for a few years before returning to the Northeast to pursue her calling in music. This experience greatly influenced her songwriting and became a major inspiration in her decision to embrace the bluegrass tradition.
In 2010, Katie formed the Two Time String Band with the intention of performing material from her CD. As the band found its compass, they settled into a more bluegrass-oriented style that has been greeted with overwhelming audience approval. The TTSB features upright double bass, guitar, banjo, cello, and fiddle (“[They] are polished and look good, like they’re having fun. A very professional act”--Arnie Fleischer of Leadership Bluegrass and the Emelin Theater, NY).
In 2009 Katie released her debut solo CD, “Katie Wilson,” to critical acclaim (“this really is a fine piece of work”--Gary Burr, Country Music Songwriting Hall of Fame member). Containing material influenced by bluegrass, blues, gospel, and reggae, the CD features nuanced renderings of her own compositions, along with some choice covers and a few songs penned by producer Richard Neal.

It's what's goin' on... and more details by the minute
We've been working hard to get some good stuff going for the fall and winter season including, but definitely not limited to:
The Huntington Street Cafe Open Bluegrass Jam
The Open Bluegrass Jam at the Huntington Street Cafe (in Huntington/Shelton, CT) runs every first Wednesday Night of the month. This is a place where anyone at any level of musical ability is welcome to come and sit in with some of the more seasoned players on the local scene. We want to nurture the bluegrass seeds that are surely being spread throughout Fairfield County. This is not an open mic (although you can get up to perform any songs you like), it is more so a jam environment to encourage folks to meet and participate in each others experience. We have a great time and would love to share an evening of great music with you! The Huntington Street Cafe is also one of the best spots in Southern CT, receiving The Best of Fairfield County Weekly's award for best sandwich, best dessert, and one of the best music scenes, and a couple others too! You can come have a beer, salad, sandwich, pizza, glass of wine, pastry, coffee, or whatever you like while you listen to some good traditional american music!
